Vegan YouTuber Bashed for Forcing Vegan Diet on Pet Fox
A Vegan YouTuber and a vegan activist, Sonia Sae, based in Barcelona, Spain, recently angered animal lovers around the world. She did so by forcing a vegan diet on her pet fox and mistreating it.
Sonia promotes a meat-free lifestyle on her YouTube channel and protests against the meat industry and also promotes issues related to animal rights. She feels strongly about the latter as she herself owns a furry animal.
Her pet, Jumanji, is a breed of exotic fox that weighs about as much as a house cat, a tiny Fennec fox. The pet is supposed to have a lot of energy, fur and big floppy ears but it is actually not healthy.
Jumanji is missing a lot of hair, it is blind and suffering from malnutrition. Sonia’s followers are concerned about the diet and lifestyle of Jumanji. The health of the vegan YouTuber indicates that not only does she follow a Vegan Diet but she also forces it upon her pet too.
It all sounds good in theory but a recent police investigation led to the conclusion that it can never work out in real world. The pet fox actually has health problems due to malnutrition and is so skinny that his ribs are showing.
Sonia claims that she adopted the fox from a breeder about 4 years ago but some of her fans claim that she bought it from an exotic pet dealer. Which leads to the possibility that she came up with the story just to increase the number of subscribers.
Sonia’s Instagram ratings have skyrocketed but not because she is that popular. Majority of the pet enthusiasts are concerned that Sonia feeds cat food to the pet fox, which is ridiculous because it is not a cat. If the fox was living in the wild, it would have been eating carnivorous foods like meal-worms, bugs, mice etc.
While the fox doesn’t get these foods, it suffers with sensitive skin, sore, lethargy, fatigue and some other complications. The looks of the pet fox are nowhere near healthy fennec foxes living the wild.
Some enraged users like Alice Natanya Moore, have started started campaigns to make sure some kind of action is taken.
She wrote, “They (fennec foxes) are NOT omnivores. If you feed a fennec fox an omnivore diet they will get sick, it is not enough for them. In the wild, 90% of their food consists of meat and insects.”
She also state that due to severe vitamin deficiency, the pet is partially blind and is experiencing hair loss. Since cat food do not contain taurine, the fox has a serious taurine deficiency.
“He is experiencing hair loss…he sheds his winter and summer coats…fennec foxes are a desert dwelling animal and do not have seasonal coats that they “shed”…meanwhile hair loss is a very common symptom of malnutrition,” Alice wrote.
The Vegan YouTuber insists that her pet has an allergy and that is why it lost all its hair.
